Nicole Richie's 'Magical' Wedding Night
Ever since she was a little girl, there were two things Nicole Richie wanted on the day she married: a show-stopper dress inspired by Grace Kelly's iconic wedding gown, and a real live elephant for good luck.Both her wishes came true as she married Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden at her father Lionel Richie's home on Dec. 11.
They tied the knot in front of their children – Harlow, 2, was the flower girl, while 15-month-old Sparrow was the ring-bearer – under a tent transformed to resemble a French garden.
"It was magical," Richie, 29, tells PEOPLE. Adds Madden, 31: "It was the best night of my life."
For her big day, Richie wore three stunning Marchesa dresses, including one featuring a ball-gown skirt crafted from more than 100 yards of hand-draped silk organza and tulle petals.

Bridal bliss times three!When Nicole Richie married Joel Madden on Saturday, the author and fashion designer wasn't content with just one bridal outfit. Instead, Richie, 29, donned three different looks, all by Marchesa, a source confirms exclusively to Us Magazine.
The insider explains that Richie wore one gown during the ceremony (which was officiated by rapper-minister Rev. Run); for the dinner, she kept the same top and switched into a different dress; for the after-dinner party, she changed into another Marchesa frock.
What did Richie, Madden, 31, and their 150 guests (including Khloe Kardashian and Samantha Ronson) chow down on at the fete, held at her dad Lionel's Beverly Hills estate?
TMZ unearthed the menu from the winter-themed affair: The gourmet goodies included red greens salad, homemade butternut squash ravioli in brown butter sage sauce, an entree choice of filet mignon or seared ahi tuna and a dessert buffet.
A guest tells Us the bash -- also featuring an elephant! -- was "awesome."

Nicole Richie: Undecided On Wedding Dress
Though her wedding to Joel Madden is just one day away, Nicole Richie still hasn't settled on the perfect gown."She's deciding between two dresses: Marchesa and vintage Chanel," a Richie pal tells the latest Us Weekly (on newsstands now).
But before Richie exchanges vows with her beau of four years, the former reality star (and mom to Harlow, 2, and Sparrow, 1) jetted to New York City on December 3 for her final fitting at Marchesa.
"Nicole brought her stylist Simone Harouche with her," a source tells Us. A lot of thought went into her dress -- it was a priority for her."
Meanwhile, preparations for the winter-themed ceremony were already under way back in Beverly Hills. As tables and chairs were delivered to her dad Lionel Richie's estate, planner Mindy Weiss began inviting the couple's closest pals to the December 11 affair.
"Mindy called all of the guests personally," a pal tells Us. "It's going to be a very small wedding."
