Heidi Montag is reportedly battling depression since undergoing more than 12 surgical procedures in two years. ‘The way people treat me, I may as well be dead.'

An insider tells Now : ‘Heidi hates herself, which is why she's got into this mess.

'No matter how many times she goes under the knife, it doesn't take away from the fact she's the same insecure person underneath.

‘She's doped up to her eyes on painkillers and has terrible mood swings.'

The reality star has been acting ‘out of it' for weeks, with hubby Spencer Pratt, 26, taking control of her post-surgery painkillers:

‘Heidi's completely addicted, which has everyone worried sick,' adds our source. ‘She slurs her words and seems unfocused.

Heidi Montag's Rep Says Drug Rumors Not True

Heidi Montag is brushing off reports claiming she's hooked on pain killers. Her rep tells X17online:

"This couldn't be further from the truth. Dr. Ryan would never prescribe her more medicine than needed. Like after any surgery, I'm sure she was prescribed pain killers, but she has never abused them."

A source close to 23-year-old Heidi says these claims are "ridiculous" and "since it's not true, it doesn't really bother her."

Heidi's rep adds that the Pratts are way too active to be pill poppers, telling us:

"Heidi and Spencer are more active than ever. Heidi has been surfing and golfing just about every day. There's no way she could be out of it. She has no ability to be on pain meds. It's impossible."

Calls to Dr. Frank Ryan, Heidi's plastic surgeon, were not immediately returned.

Heidi Pratt Relying on Painkillers Post Surgery?

Sources on the set of The Hills fear that Heidi Pratt is developing a dangerous addiction to painkillers -- months after her recovery from plastic surgery.

"She's a shell of her former self," a show insider tells the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands today. (A rep for the reality star, 23, tells Us, "This is completely ridiculous.")

Indeed, Heidi and her husband, Spencer, have developed increasingly weird behavior. While their 2008 elopement to Mexico was done with a knowing wink, they're recently "crossed over to this bizarre place," the source says.

Case in point: Heidi only agreed to get 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day last November "because she knew it would be a huge story," an insider says. (Laments pal Jason Wahler to Us, "I knew her when she was normal.")

"They are addicted to the fame," the source says. "As The Hills winds down and people start to care less, they are desperate to get back that high."

Pals say they've always had a thirst for fame -- especially Spencer, who declared shortly after The Hills premiered in 2006, "I'm going to date those girls and blow that show up.

Says a source who knew Heidi then, "She was spellbound. If it weren't for him, she'd be a mom in the suburbs."
